Onsite Optimization - Behind the Scenes

Optimizing your website behind the scenes - what is important for you to know

There are several important components here and most will be built into your website when it is being designed.

Meta tags

There are several different types of Meta Tags but the two most important are Keywords and Content. These are inserted into the code at the top of your website which search engines read to index your pages in their databases.

Keywords

This Meta Tag is for the Keywords about your business often with just different tweaks and variations or similar words. This is where phrases and words go that you think people will type in to search engines.

Content

This is a description of what your business is about. Generally a paragraph or 2, up to 160 characters. This is what will show up in Google under the title of your page so make it short, sweet and to the point otherwise it will get cut off.

Images

All images can have text attached to them. If you go to a website and hover over the image text should pop up. If it doesn't no text has been inserted. This helps with search engines and is a great place to put keyword rich text.

Links between your website pages

Your basic web page has a header, navigation, content and footer. The navigation is the main link between pages but you should also have descriptive links through out your content to link to other pages. For example you could have a Products page, but from your index/front page you could be writing about what you do and say something like 'To solve all your fruit tree needs or purchase fruit trees visit our Products page.' This whole section will be a link to the Products page and being a link it is 'worth' more to a search engine and having keywords in this link makes it 'worth' even more. People could type in 'fruit tree needs', 'fruit tree purchases,' 'fruit tree products,' 'fruit trees.' Catch my drift?
